More Information
I have enjoyed working in the field of geriatrics since the 1980’s. My goal is to deliver the utmost in quality exercise programs to the people I serve. Since 2007, I have provided exercise programs to both assisted living facilities and one-on-one clients. My passion is to increase wellness and awareness about the benefits of exercising within the Los Angeles community. Much of my research has focused on seniors, including Alzheimer’s disease, fall prevention, as well as other chronic conditions that can benefit from performing regular exercise.
One-on-one individualized instruction -for people who are post-rehab but still need some exercise instruction in order to stay mobile and active with a customized program. Exercise sessions tailored to your specific needs help promote health, circulation, cardiorespiratory benefits, increased mobility and a feeling of well-being.
Below is a brief overview of the different types of classes that I offer.
• Balls & Bands- Is a one hour seated program designed to increase strength, and flexibility and enhance cardiovascular endurance. It includes a warm-up, strength training with handheld ball-shaped weights, flexibility training with flat bands, hand-eye coordination with inflatable balls and bladder (lower pelvic organ) strengthening performed through using isometric exercises. The program also covers enhanced breathing exercises and a cool-down period.
• Balance & Meditation (BAM) - Is a one hour program designed to enhance balance and closes with a meditation portion. A series of eye exercises are performed, along with seated and standing drills to help improve gait and balance. It includes a warm-up that incorporates the use of agility dots to prepare the residents for standing exercises. Assistive devices can be used to accommodate all levels. The goal is to gain increased strength, balance, and coordination.
• Aqua Aerobics- Is a one hour class where we all enter the pool. It includes a warm-up, a series of exercises to improve strength and cardiovascular fitness-and we have a lot of fun! Because of the buoyancy the water provides, it greatly aids in removing pressure off of the joints especially in arthritic conditions. The lack of gravity assists people to walk more freely while using equipment such as foam noodles. Waterproof bands with handles are used to improve strength and flexibility, while the use of body-weight resistance exercises improves cardiovascular health.
